Flight bags with airline logos have been around since 1950.

The bags on this page are from the 50s 60s and early 70s. Most are made of vinyl and covered in a wool or plastic material. Inside the bag is a cloth tag that identifies the maker. Some flight bags made in Italy and France are extremely rare.

Long ago, the airlines gave these flight bags to passengers who were in first class or who bought a vacation plan through that particular airline. These bags are now treasured souvenirs because the airlines do not give away anything free anymore!

The airlines stopped travel bag giveaways in the 1980s. By then the in-flight freebies had shrunk to the size of a make-up bag, and were only for first class passengers. The airlines would give you a courtesy travel bag when they would misplace your airline luggage. Some airlines still practice this.

The internet is full of sites that sell these flight bags and many are not authentic but many look very genuine. Companies do create new flight bags that are made to look like the old vintage originals and most of the new ones are made in Thailand.
